In the amazing world of Greek gods, there are wars, fights, love and family. Myths were mostly based on a real life fact- every action gets a reaction. Whether you are good or bad, all your actions will result in you being punished or rewarded accordingly. The Greek god stories are fun and informative. Every character is unique and has a story with an important lesson. Hope you enjoyed the 4 myths above and learnt the due lesson from them.
The Magic Rocks
Ares was the god of war. He was very handsome but was also mean and only cared about himself. Very few people like Ares, one of whom was Eris, his best friend. Eris was the spirit of disagreement. Macedonia was a beautiful country, filled with luscious vegetation and farmlands. Once, in a farmland on Macedonia’s border lived two brothers. Since their farm was on the border of the country, the constant war would destroy the crops. The brothers were very angry. Every time a battle took place, Ares would come by to watch and would shout in glee. Ares loved wars and the torment they brought. He would occasionally step in and cause more problems so that the war would be prolonged. Both the brothers prayed to the other gods, day and night, to rid them of the torment or Ares. They were persistent and never lost faith. Their prayers were heard by Athena the goddess of wisdom. The next time Ares came to watch a good war at the border, Athena used her magic and struck him with a stone. Due to magic, the stone became fiery red. Ares passed out. That incident scared Ares and he never went back to watch the wars there. The rock became known as the magic rock. This story teaches us to be persistent and to never lose faith. Good things always turn and come back to good people.

Athena Learns a Lesson
Athena is known as the goddess of wisdom. She was beautiful and smart. Athena was very kind and caring but with time, she became arrogant as people would always praise her. People and Gods would always talk about Athena being the beauty with brains, how smart she was and how tactfully she dealt with all problems. These praises got to Athena’s head and she started to think too much of herself. She thought wisdom was most important of all traits (as she was the goddess of wisdom). One day Zeus, the king of all gods, invited Athena over. When she went to meet him, there were few other gods present. Two servants came and served water and appetizers to all the gods present except Athena. Zeus began to praise all the other Gods except Athena. After all the Gods left, Athena stayed back and complained to Zeus about the bad treatment she got, to which Zeus revealed that this was a ploy he used to make her realize that wisdom is not everything. Zeus then explained the importance of love, hospitality, care etc. He told her that wisdom was important, but it was not everything. After this, Athena went to her old self and was never arrogant again. This story teaches two important lessons. The first is that we should never be arrogant. We should not let praises get to us and start thinking too much of ourselves. The second lesson is that having one good trait is not enough; we should strive to be good overall. We should be smart, kind, compassionate and caring.
These are just examples; there are so many more stories on Greek myths. These Greek myths are now available as English stories for kids. So sit with your kids and read them before bedtime. They are fun and highly informative!
